Double facet personality
When most people think of Shakira, they think of hips, music and sensual dance.Little do they know of what she considers to be the "other facet" of her personality, her philanthropy. In 1995, Shakira founded the Pies Descalzos Foundation. It is a Colombian charity with special schools for poor children all around Colombia. It was funded by Shakira and other international groups and individuals. The name of the foundation is taken from Shakira's third studio album called Pies Descalzos, released in 1995. Shakira served as the Honorary Chairperson for "Action Week" 2008 (April 21-27). The event is sponsored by the Global Campaign for Education (GCE), to generate awareness about the Education for All Act. On her 32nd birthday, Shakira opened a new $6-Million school in her hometown Barranquilla, which was sponsored by herself and her Pies Descalzos Foundation. She was inspired at about age 8, when she was upset about her parents failure in business and her parents decided to take a fill trip to show her she was not as unfortunate as she thought and that there were a lot of people in a much worse shape than they were. She grew up with both passions (philathropy & art) on mind and most of us would agree, she has been successful at glorifying them.

What guides your life?
"The man without a purpose is like a ship without a rudder -- waif, a nothing, a no man. Have a purpose in life, and, having it, throw such strength of mind and muscle into your work as God has given you." Thomas Carlyle
Many are guided by guilt, anger, resentment, fear, need of being accepted, materialism (which by the way, cannot buy happiness, money comes and goes and there are plenty of wealthy people committing suicide and attached to addictions trying to fill up the emptiness that their money can't) etc, they are all dead-ends.
I have made glorifying God my guide and purpose. knowing your purpose stimulates your life (on earth and after). I encourage everyone to find theirs.

Mariah's answer for how got over abuse
When asked if she had ever been abused in the past, by Larry King, Mariah Carey answered that it was hard for her because the relationship with that person wasn't only personal but also professional. Larry King then asked how she was able to get out of her break down, a few years ago, her answered surprised me, she said " My faith, Hebrews 11, for those who would like check it out in the bible. I know that is not "cool" to say I am a believer but that was my personal way of getting out of the crisis".
For some reason there a lot artists who's faith is very strong at the beginning of their careers and as they progress they seem to forget about it. I though that had been the case with Mariah, but I was surprised to hear her answer. She mentioned Hebrews 11-1 "Faith makes us sure of what we hope for and gives us proof of what we cannot see". I am glad to see that in spite of her success she still remembers how she got to where she is.

Blind Spot
I've recently learned something I found very interesting and would like to share here on my blog:
People behave and act not in accordance with the truth of our real potential. We behave and act subconsciously, not in the mind consciously, but subconsciously, like we believe we are. Your beliefs are so powerful that they hold you back
We pick up light with our eyes, and then translate the light in our brain based upon how you were taught or conditioned in the past. If your past conditioning does not match what you’re looking at, you build a blind spot to it. That blind spot is called a SCOTOMA. The problem with scotomas, or blind spots, is you don’t know where they are. You always think you’re seeing the truth. Be persistent, because the answers exist, and you are smart enough to get them.

Top of the AlertNet's list of Celebrity Humanitarians
Although not everyone praises her, and some even say her personal life and her humanitarian work contradict, the actress Angelina Jolie for a second year in a row topped AlertNet’s list of the most-respected celebrity humanitarians of 2008. It is always tempting to sneer at an actor's passionate embrace of charity work as a gimmick — method giving. But, Angelina Jolie has gracefully slipped past viewer cynicism, speaking with candor and self-deprecation about the plight of third world refugees. When CNN's Anderson Cooper marveled that she gives away one-third of her earnings, Ms. Jolie laughed. "Yes, well, I have a stupid income for what I do for a living," she said. Her obsession is a lasting fancy that is impossible to fault. She has also traveled extensively for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, and lavished time, money and her fame to a difficult causes.

There are a few people in Hollywood who I admire because they are not afraid to include their faith and what they stand for into their work, one of them being Tyler Perry. Faith is seamlessly into his characters' lives, in a way that many movies just don't do. When asked what is the role of faith in work? he answered: " I don't know why is never talked about in films. There are people [making films] that believe, but they do it in the closet. They believe very quietly. There is this huge separation of church and state. I am not afraid to mix the two. I'm not afraid to have a character say "I'm a christian" or "I believe in God", because I think they represent real people on this earth.
I totally agree, and can totally relate to his perspective.

Thoughts...
"You can only become truly accomplished at something you love. Don't make money your goal. Instead, pursue the things you love doing, and then do them so well that people can't take their eyes off you". Maya Angelou
I feel like I have waisted three years of my life being careless, studying and working on something that I have absolutely no passion for. I will never finish thanking the means that revealed to me my purpose and passion in this life, because life is too short to spend it unhappy.
We come to this world with nothing (material), and leave with nothing. We all have a purpose in this life, make it your goal to fulfill it!!

1st example
Everyone who has been gifted or honored with some kind of influence over people should use it for the benefit of the people. A good example of this, would be singer Christina Aguilera, whos artistry has been many times negatively criticized, has done admirable philanthropic and humanitarian work. Aguilera, has worked with National Alliance of breast cancer research organizations, Missing Kids, Do Something, National Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Refuge UK. Contributes in the fight against AIDS as a spokesperson for MAC AIDS fund and in 2009 became the global spokesperson for World Hunger Relief. She was honored at Variety's annual "Power of Women" luncheon for her charitable causes.
It's about time we stop being so selfish just thinking about all the material things this world has to offer and start sharing and giving back!!
