Top of the AlertNet's list of Celebrity Humanitarians

Although not everyone praises her, and some even say her personal life and her humanitarian work contradict, the actress Angelina Jolie for a second year in a row topped AlertNet’s list of the most-respected celebrity humanitarians of 2008. It is always tempting to sneer at an actor's passionate embrace of charity work as a gimmick — method giving. But, Angelina Jolie has gracefully slipped past viewer cynicism, speaking with candor and self-deprecation about the plight of third world refugees. When CNN's Anderson Cooper marveled that she gives away one-third of her earnings, Ms. Jolie laughed. "Yes, well, I have a stupid income for what I do for a living," she said. Her obsession is a lasting fancy that is impossible to fault. She has also traveled extensively for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, and lavished time, money and her fame to a difficult causes.

  1. While her giving is respected...is it more important to give publicly and gain attention or more important to give in ways that no one needs to know?

  2. Actually, I think it is better to do it and give a good example. We have enough bad examples around that we get influenced by everyday, why not be admire a good one like this.
